Kids Roller Skating Classes in Atlanta: A Parent's Complete Guide

If your child has been asking to learn roller skating — or if you're looking for a fun, active activity that builds real skills — Atlanta's RollerFit studio offers one of the most structured kids skating programs in the Southeast.

This guide covers everything parents need to know: what the program looks like, what ages it's appropriate for, what to expect at the first class, and how to get started.

About the RollerKids Program

RollerKids is RollerFit's dedicated program for children ages 4–12. It's taught separately from adult classes, with instruction methods, pacing, and curriculum designed specifically for young learners.

Coach Glo has worked with hundreds of kids across all skill levels — from children who've never put on skates to kids who are ready to start learning advanced footwork. The program is structured, safe, and genuinely fun.

What Kids Learn in RollerKids

The RollerKids curriculum is progressive. Here's what children work on at each stage:

Beginners (first 4–8 sessions):

  • How to stand and balance on skates
  • Safe falling technique
  • Basic forward skating
  • Stopping (the T-stop)
  • Simple direction changes

Intermediate (after basic skills are solid):

  • Crossovers (turning while maintaining speed)
  • Backward skating
  • More complex stopping techniques
  • Basic footwork patterns

Advanced:

  • Spins and turns
  • Dance-style footwork
  • Speed and agility drills
  • Performance-oriented movement

Class Formats for Kids

Drop-In Group Classes

Weekly RollerKids group classes are available as drop-in sessions. Classes run approximately 90 minutes and include warm-up, skill instruction, practice time, and cool-down.

Price: $25 per class. New students pay $10 for their first class.

4-Week RollerKids Boot Camp

The boot camp is the fastest way for kids to build real skating skills. Eight sessions over four weeks, with a structured curriculum that builds progressively. By the end of the boot camp, most kids are skating confidently and working on intermediate skills.

Price: $150 for the full 4-week program (8 sessions).

Private Lessons for Kids

One-on-one coaching for children who want personalized instruction. Great for kids who are nervous in group settings, kids who want to advance faster, or kids with specific goals (like learning a particular skill for a performance or event).

Price: $110 per session.

What Age Can Kids Start?

RollerKids accepts children as young as 4 years old. At this age, the focus is entirely on balance and basic movement — there's no pressure to skate fast or learn complex skills.

For children under 6, we recommend starting with a private lesson or a small group session so Coach Glo can assess the child's readiness and comfort level before joining a full group class.

Children 7 and older typically do well in the standard group class format from the start.

What to Bring to Your Child's First Class

  • Comfortable athletic clothing — leggings, athletic pants, a fitted top
  • Closed-toe shoes (for fitting rental skates)
  • Water bottle
  • Knee pads and wrist guards (optional but recommended for beginners — available for purchase at the studio)

Skate rentals are available at RollerFit. If your child takes to skating and you want to buy their own pair, Coach Glo can recommend age-appropriate options.

Is RollerFit Safe for Kids?

Safety is built into every aspect of the RollerKids program:

  • Small class sizes — Coach Glo maintains a low student-to-instructor ratio so every child gets individual attention
  • Structured fall training — Kids learn how to fall safely before they learn anything else
  • Padded floor — The studio floor is designed for skating instruction
  • No open rink chaos — Unlike public rinks, RollerFit is a controlled instruction environment

What Parents Say

Parents consistently report that their kids come home from RollerKids classes excited and asking when they can go back. The combination of skill development, physical activity, and a supportive environment makes it a standout activity for kids who are looking for something more engaging than a typical sport.

Several RollerFit families have multiple children enrolled, and many parents end up joining adult classes themselves after seeing their kids' progress.
